Mr. and Mrs. Gene Walters of Duncan will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary with a stay at the Hilton Skirvin in Oklahoma City, including a carriage tour of Bricktown and a family gathering at Mickey Mantle’s steak house.
Walters and Jane Dewoody dated for four years before their marriage on Jan. 19, 1960, in Ardmore. They married at that time because Gene had been drafted and was to leave two days later for basic training.
Gene worked for 24 years at Halliburton and 15 years in the trucking business. The couple also owned their own grocery story for 10 years during that time. They currently own another business in Duncan.
Their best accomplishment has been their children, with whom they love spending time.
They have three children, Phelicia and husband, Tracy; Billy Jr. and wife, Claudette; and Brad. There is one grandchild.
