Bennie and Joy Winter celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Oct. 1, 2009. The couple were married on that date in Davis, Okla.
Bennie was in the Air Force, when his buddy and Joy were writing as pen pals. When he saw Joy’s picture, he took her address and started writing to her and after a short engagement, were married.
The couple has had jobs in the Air Force, oil fields and Braums. They also became involved in the horse racing industry where Bennie raised and trained his own racehorses. Bennie has also written an anthology, a novel and self-help books; and Joy acts as editor in chief of their publishing and marketing business.
The couple have five children, Schahara and Rusty Hudelson, Levelland, Texas; Scheryl and Doug Williams, Ardmore; Scharmagne and Sahd Heindi, Arlington, Texas; Christopher and Christine Winter, Clarkston, Wash.; and Schaunon and Mark Gilman, Evergreen, Colo. They also have 10 grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
