Natural resources command public attention this week in one of the nation's largest annual programs centered on conservation -- Soil and Water Stewardship Week.

Centered on "Water Is Life," the annual observance has been officially proclaimed by Gov. Brad Henry for the week of April 27-May 4.

The observance is promoted nationally by the National Association of Conservation Districts. Since 1955 NACD and the Oklahoma Association of Conservation Districts have sponsored Stewardship Week.

Locally and around the state conservation districts will work with media outlets, communities, faith-based groups and local school districts to promote the concept of Stewardship, which involves personal and social responsibility, including a duty to leave a rich legacy for future generations.
