Services for William Ray Herndon, 81, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home Centennial Chapel with the Rev. Donny Custar officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.


Born Sept. 29, 1926, in Ardmore to Grover J. and Viola Bridges Herndon, he died May 23, 2008, in Ardmore. He was preceded in death by his parents.


He married Ernestine Baggett Dec. 2, 1949, in Ardmore.


A graduate of Dickson High School, Ray served in the U.S. Army during the end of World War II. After his honorable discharge, he returned and began working for OG&E as a lineman. He retired after 39 years of service as district superintendent in Pauls Valley.


After his retirement, he and his wife moved back to Ardmore, where he was a member of Northwest Baptist Church, Trailblazers and OG&E Men’s Club.


Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son, Grover and his wife, Debbie, Ardmore; three daughters, Betty Kaniho, Albuquerque, N.M., Wanda Wilson, Norman, and Shirley Caves, Oklahoma City; a brother, Jack and his wife, Mildred, Ardmore; six grandchildren, Chuck Caves, Denver, Jamaica Wilson, Champaign, Ill., Thomas and William Herndon, Ardmore, and Kyle and Andi Kaniho, Albuquerque; and a great-granddaughter, Layla Caves, Denver.


Bearers are Warren Sullivan, Bobby Chandler, Harold McMillan, V.D. Dudley, W.A. Mauldin and Rodney Shields.
