Services for Virgie Mae Halstead, 73, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at Griffin-Hillcrest Funeral Home Chapel with Jonathan Blose officiating. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Chapel Hill Cemetery, Oklahoma City.


Services for Virgie Mae Halstead, 73, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at Griffin-Hillcrest Funeral Home Chapel with Jonathan Blose officiating. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Chapel Hill Cemetery, Oklahoma City.


Born Jan. 4, 1935, in Louisburg, N.C., to Eugene H. and Geneva Patterson Colbert, she died May 23, 2008, in Ardmore. She married Arnold Milton Halstead July 2, 1955, in Louisburg. He preceded her in death Dec. 20, 2004. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Malcolm Colbert.


Virgie was the owner and operator of Virgie’s 12th St. Lounge for the past 48 years. She attended Northwest Baptist Church and was known to extend her heart and home to many people. Among many things she loved were her family and flowers.


Survivors include two sons, Gary Halstead, Tulsa, and Kenneth Halstead and his wife, Jeanie, Yukon; three grandchildren, Scott and Brian Ketchum, and James Letterman; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Agnes Layton and her husband, Jim, Spring Hope, N.C.; two brothers, Henry Colbert and his wife, Frances, Spring Hope, and Furman Colbert and his wife, Kaye, Raleigh, N.C.; numerous nieces and nephews; and close personal friends of the family, Buddy Lewis McClaine and Radona Gorley.


Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
