Two area motorcyclists lost their lives this week in crashes, according to area police reports.

A 69-year-old man died from injuries he suffered after his motorcycle collided with a motor vehicle Monday afternoon near the intersection of West Broadway Street and Plainview Road, according to an Ardmore Police report.

Details of the accident have not been released, but Capt. Kevin Woods, Ardmore Police Department Investigations Division, said Tuesday the victim’s name is Jackie Sams. Woods said the incident was still under investigation and additional information will be released after an accident reconstruction team completes its report.

The accident occurred at about 2:25 p.m. on West Broadway Street. Medics from the Southern Oklahoma Ambulance Service transported Sams to Mercy Memorial Health Center with head injuries.

A 24-year-old Tishomingo man died early Tuesday when his motorcycle ran off Ray Barnum Road and crashed into a roadside embankment, Tishomingo Police report.

Brett Hughes died in an Oklahoma City hospital from massive injuries, according to a preliminary report. Hughes was initially treated at Johnston Memorial Hospital before being airlifted to an Oklahoma City trauma center.

Tishomingo Police investigator Steve Boman said Hughes was riding west on Ray Barnum Road when his 2003 model Honda ran off the north side of the roadway just west of Elks Road. The machine traveled 108 feet before striking a telephone junction box and continued another 43 feet and hit an embankment. Chief Shannon Smith said police will try to  determine what caused the crash.
