Services for Burton A. “Burt” Simpson, 78, were 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30 2008, in Walker Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Dan Lewis officiating. Interment followed at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery.
Born Oct. 23, 1929 in Hollywood, Calif. to Burton A., and Frances M. Simpson, he died Aug. 25, 2008, in Shawnee. He was preceded in death by: his parents and a sister, Frances Mary Simpson.
Simpson moved to Ardmore as an infant. He graduated from Ardmore High School in 1947 and attended Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas.
He married Mary Jo Bowman in 1953. They divorced in 1983 after having two sons. On May 25, 1984 he married Martha J. Castor in Shawnee.
He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served in during the Korean Conflict and completed his military commitment in 1955. In 1948 he worked for OG&E in Ardmore. In 1955 he rejoined OG&E serving in various capacities in the accounting department. He retired from OG&E in 1987, after 39 years of service.
Simpson was a life long member of the United Presbyterian Church in Shawnee, where he served as deacon, elder, and trustee.
He was a kind, loving, and genteel man, He loved his wife, family and friends. He remained in touch with several friends from childhood throughout his life. He loved boats, and boating. Being on the water for him was pure joy. He loved the sunrises and sunsets, his koi pond and all of nature.
Survivors include his wife, Martha, of the home; two sons Gregory Simpson of Farmersville, Texas, and Stephen Simpson and his wife, Diana, of Seminole; grandchildren Lauren Simpson, of Farmersville, Amy Simpson, of Seminole, and Ashley Fitchner, of Seminole; three step children, Joni Groves, of Broken Arrow, George Purcell, of Tulsa, and Robert Purcell, of Louisville, Ky.; and three step-grandchildren, Kara Purcell, of Ponca City, Hunter Purcell, of Claremore, and Taylor Groves, of Broken Arrow.
