Graveside services for Mr. Harley Gene Stewart, 63, of Ringling, were held 10 a.m. Saturday, September 27, 2008, at Ringling Memorial Cemetery in Ringling with Pastor Jimmy Morris officiating. Services were under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home in Ringling.
Harley was born September 17, 1945, at Healdton, to Mr. Joe Lewis Stewart and Mrs. Jurlie Uzella (Odell) Stewart. He departed this life at his home in Ringling, Thursday evening September 25, 2008.
Harley was reared in Fox, graduating in 1963. He then attended Murray State College for two years before going to Oklahoma State University to finish his education. After college Harley began working for Ringling Public School as the Vo-Ag teacher for nine years.
When he left teaching, he did what he loved the most which was farming and ranching. He and the former Patricia Patrick were united in marriage January 23, 1968, at Ringling. Harley was the founding member of the Red River Cattle Dog Association and was an area manager for Vigortone Ag Products for 10 years.
Some of his favorite tales were of Cari training cow dogs, Balers’ turkey hunts, Caleb catching fish, Mac finding mushrooms, and Harley Joe picking Poke salad. He also would tell of the many coon and wild hog hunts they had. Harley was a proud rancher and pecan grower who always said “Pray for a good harvest, but keep on hoeing” and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ.
Preceding him in death was his son Joe Dale Stewart, October 20, 1991, in Ringling.
Survivors include his loving wife, Patricia, of the home; son, Patrick Alan Stewart and wife, Cindy, of Ringling; granddaughter, Cari, and grandsons, Baler Dee, Caleb Alan, Mac Gage, and Harley Joe; parents, Joe and Jurlie Stewart, of Healdton; parents-in-law, Don and Drue Patrick, of Ringling; brother, Robert Stewart, and wife, Jeanette, of Healdton; sisters, Barbara Hudgens, and husband, Jerry, of Tyler, Texas, Diana Dickerson, and husband, Bob, of Fox, and Debi Rapier and husband, Jim, of Ringling; sisters-in-law, Donna Skinner, and husband, Mike, of Ringling, and Liz Wilson and husband, Cokey, also of Ringling; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends.
Pallbearers were Bobby Dickerson, Chad Dickerson, Scott Skinner, Kyle Skinner, Bo’ don Wilson, Jon Wilson, Kevin Edwards, Kevin Wilson, Danial Naim and Jon Tolliver.
