The Ringling Blue Devils wrapped up the District A-4 title with a 27-12 victory over the Elmore City-Pernell Badgers.

It’s Ringling’s 15th district title.

Michael Hudson was the work-horse for the fourth-ranked Blue Devils. Hudson carried the football 26 times for 216 yards and scored all four Ringling touchdowns.

But Ringling (8-0, 7-0 in A-4) wasn’t able to totally put the Badgers away until the second half, when the Blue Devil defense rose to the occasion and kept the Badgers out of the end zone.

Elmore City (5-3,5-2), scored first on a 60-yard run by Jack Phillips. But Ringling took the lead 7-6 when Hudson scored on a 23-yard run, and Blue Devil kicker Matthew Keenan nailed the PAT.

The Badgers re-took the lead in the second when Jay Anderson hit Colt McConnell with a 15-yard scoring pass to make the score 12-7. But with 4:28 left before halftime, Hudson ran it in from 35 yards out to put Ringling ahead for good, 13-12.

Hudson scored on a 10-yard run with 8:19 left in the third and on a 5-yarder less than a minute into the fourth.

Although the Badgers had a slight lead in total yards (294-278), the Blue Devil defense wouldn’t allow a score in the second half. This marked the first time so far that a team had scored twice on the Ringling defenders. They have given up just 33 points so far in eight games.

The Blue Devils return home this Friday to host Bray-Doyle and head to Wilson on Nov. 6 to take on the Eagles in week 10. The Wilson game was moved a day ahead because of difficulties in finding officials for the game, Ringling coach Tracy Gandy said.
