CM Trailers of Madill laid off up to 40 employees in its trailer plant Wednesday, company officials confirmed Thursday.

CM Trailers of Madill laid off up to 40 employees in its trailer plant Wednesday, company officials confirmed Thursday.

With the current state of the economy, plus the trailer industry’s usual seasonal attrition, employees had to be laid off. Sheila Raper, CM Trailers Marketing Director, said Thursday “a lot of thought was put into who would be let go and why.”

Raper said she hopes that the trailer market will turn around soon and that they can hire people. The company currently employs 330 people overall. No key management was laid off, in hope that they can reverse the company’s recent downturn.

The company has two buildings across the street from one another, one for building all types of trailers, including all steel horse, stock, cargo and utility trailers and aluminum exterior steel frame horse and cargo trailers, and another for building truck beds. There were no losses in the truck bed plant.
