Reggie was born May 24, 1944, at Vernon, Texas, to Emil and Lois Elizabeth Carlton Kester. He passed from this life on Dec. 30, 2008, in his home at the age of 64. He married Marcella Benham on June 9, 1962, at Altus, Okla.


He was raised on a West Texas horse farm. Reggie went to North Texas Farrier School in 1966. He shod horses for several years before moving to Oklahoma in 1972. At that point he and Marcella built and opened the Oklahoma State Horseshoeing School in 1975 and has owned and operated it until his death. Reggie and his wife spent their married lives involved in Oklahoma Youth Rodeo Association and local 4-H programs.


Reggie was a charter member of the Oklahoma Farrier’s Association, lifelong member of the American Farrier’s Association and founder and past president of the American Farrier’s Education Council. He was inducted into the Brotherhood of Working Farrier’s Association Hall of Fame. He and Marcella were recipients of the outstanding Administrative Award from the American Farrier’s Association.


Reggie was a man of faith and enjoyed spending time with his church family. He always had bubble gum for the children. Reggie was a wonderful father, grandfather and brother and loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, the lake and attending the grandchildren’s sporting events.


He is survived by his wife Marcella of the home; son Regan Kester and his wife Kathy of Ardmore; daughter Zann Shelton and her husband Bobby of Ardmore; sister Beth Ann Collins and husband Glenn of Vernon, Texas; brother Max Kester and his wife Annelle of Odell, Texas; grandchildren Ty Kester and his wife Kayla of Ardmore, Kash Kester of Ardmore, Deric Shelton of Ardmore, Megan Shelton of Ardmore and Jason Hall of Norman; great-grandchild Kamryn Kester of Ardmore and numerous close nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Emil and Lois, and brothers Ben Carlton Kester and Bob Emil Kester.


Pallbearers will be Frank Dice, David Goodman, Mike Edwards, Gary Gloden, Nathan Hammett and Mark Briscoe. Honorary bearers will be Craig Livingston, Dee Shadden and Melvin Burris.
