The Carter County Sheriff’s Department is investigating five grass fires that occurred early Wednesday in eastern Carter County. Undersheriff Milton Anthony said all of the fires were purposely set.

Dickson Fire Chief Troy Duke said the fires apparently started between 3 and 3:30 a.m. along Hoxbar and Mockingbird roads. Firefighters from the Dickson Volunteer Fire Department extinguished all of the blazes. No structures were damaged.

Anthony said the fires were particularly troubling because of the dry conditions and lack of rainfall. Carter County is under a burn ban.

“If anyone has any information about who might have started the fires, please call the Carter County Sheriff’s Department at (580) 221-5506,” he said.
