Like the gymnasium before it, the new arena at Southeastern Oklahoma State will be named after Bloomer Sullivan.

The school has planned a dedication of Bloomer Sullivan Arena for 4 p.m. Wednesday at the front of the arena, which opened last fall. Sullivan was a basketball coach and athletic director at the school who won 662 games and 13 conference championships from 1937-67.

The old Southeastern gym, which was built in 1957, was renamed Bloomer Sullivan Gymnasium in 1975.

Also at the arena Wednesday, former Southeastern basketball star Jerry Shipp will present his 1964 Olympic gold medal to the school between the 6 p.m. women’s and 8 p.m. men’s games against Cameron.

In women’s basketball action Saturday, Southeastern beat Texas A&M-Commerce 103-80.
