BancFirst was named as a top performing bank in the United States, according to the January-February issue of Bank Director Magazine.

BancFirst ranked 11th in the annual listing of the 150 largest publicly traded banks and thrifts nationwide based upon the magazine’s 2008 Bank Performance Scorecard. BancFirst is the highest ranked Oklahoma bank on the list and is up six spots from its 2007 ranking of 17th.

Bank Director annually rates and ranks the top performing banks and thrifts in America, based on profitability, capitalization and asset quality metrics.  Specifically, Bank Director uses six categories to measure the performance of banks, including return on average assets, return on average equity, tier 1 capital ratio, leverage capital ratio, nonperforming asset ratio and reserve coverage.  The Scorecard’s purpose is to identify banks that generate good profits without leveraging balance sheets or taking excessive lending risks. For the annual ranking, Sandler O’Neill & Partners L.P., a New York-based investment banking specializing in the financial services industry, oversees the Bank Director’s Scorecard compilation.

About this year’s Top Performers, the magazine article states, “…they are a sober-minded, traditional bunch. Top performers this year have largely eschewed exotic loan products. They tend to have minimal exposure to real estate and construction loans, preferring to lend money to businesses, corporations, and individuals with sound credit histories.”

“While BancFirst may not always be the lowest-cost provider, our commitment to prudent banking practices pays off. BancFirst has always been interested in the development of long-term customer relationships and the growth of our community,” said Stan Marshall, President, BancFirst Ardmore.
