Authorities are investigating what has been preliminarily labeled a double homicide in Burneyville.

Jessica Brown, OSBI spokeswoman, said agents were called in about 3 p.m. to assist the Love County Sheriff’s Department in the investigation into the deaths of Carol Lee, 54, and James Lee, 71. Brown said the couple’s bodies had been discovered inside their residence earlier in the day by a relative.

“The relative hadn’t been able to contact them for several days and went to the house to check on them,” Brown said adding, “We are investigating this as a double homicide but that could change.”
Brown would not comment on how the couple had died.

“We’re going to let the medical examiner tell us that,” she said.

About 6:30 p.m. Sheriff Joe Russell said the investigation was still in the preliminary stage and so far no suspects had been identified in the case. Russell said it had not been determined when the couple had died, but he said that last time anyone had seen the pair was “possibly Tuesday.”

Russell said Carol Lee had been a resident of Love County all of her life.
