Ardmore City Commission recently declared March 1-7 as Emergency Management Week. The designation comes on the heels of a similar proclamation by Gov. Brad Henry.


In addition to Federal Emergency Management Agency employees, there are emergency managers at the state and local level as well. In fact, Oklahoma boasts nearly 400 emergency managers representing the state’s cities, towns and counties.


Many of today’s emergency managers are yesterday’s civil defense workers. They support response and recovery efforts during times of disaster. The coordinate the identification, deployment and use of needed resources by police, fire and other emergency responders. And most emergency managers also serve as Homeland Security officials.
