Down 5-3 to Sulphur in the fifth inning, Plainview finally broke out the big bats on Tuesday.
The Indians hit three of their four homers in the fifth inning and 10 runs in the fifth and sixth combined to beat Sulphur 13-5 at home.
For the Indians, it was both a reversion back to mediocrity and a display of what they are capable of when provoked.
“I thought they showed a lot of character,” Plainview coach Brent Hackney said. “We were down 5-3, hit that mid-game lull that we’ve done in the past, but they responded well.”
Plainview went ahead 3-1 after one inning, but, in the fourth, Sulphur’s Colton McKenzie hit a two-run homer to tie the game at 3.
Plainview (19-4) responded with its game-breaking fifth, as Blake Smith hit a two-run shot, followed by a Blake Hoke’s three-run homer and a Dylan Morales solo shot.
Morales and Chandler Ray were each 1-for-2 with a home run and Smith was 3-for-3 with a double and a homer. Smith also recorded his fifth win of the season in relief.
Davis 13 Wilson 1
WILSON — Davis stretched its winning streak to eight games against Wilson on Tuesday.
Cole Weber won his third game on the mound for the Wolves (20-6) and was 3-for-3 at the plate with three RBI. The Wolves plated three or more runs in every inning but the third.
John Collette and Blake Looney each chipped in with two RBI for Davis, which also scored in double figures for the eighth consecutive game.
Dickson 12 Wilson 1
DICKSON — Wilson could only muster three hits on the road while Dickson pounded out 13 in a four-inning run-rule win.
Courtney Dodson had a double and a home run for Dickson and Dara Gray chipped in with two doubles for the Comets (16-3).
