Ardmore Contemporary Dance Company is offering its first summer workshop Tuesday through Friday.

Children ages 3 to 18 will be able to take classes in creative movement, modern, choreography, jazz and ballet.

The workshop will be at the Brass Ring Performing Arts Center located at 120 A St. NE.

Co-artistic directors, Erin Craven and Misti Reynolds, will focus on approaching movement from a creative point of view.

“We are excited to be offering this workshop in our community because we are doing something unique. Our classes will focus on modern dance and include opportunities for the students to improvise and create their own movement,” Reynolds said.

Both instructors have more than 10 years of teaching experience and have trained extensively in their field. Craven earned her master of fine arts and bachelor of arts in dance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and St. Olaf College, respectively. She taught dance in public arts magnet schools in Kentucky and North Carolina before moving to Ardmore in 2006.

“Summer is a great time for students of all ages to try something different and stretch their creativity in a new way,” she said. “We have a lot of innovative ideas that we plan to pack into our four days with the students.”

Reynolds received her degree from the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan, and went on to study at the State University of New York at Purchase and Gus Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago, a professional school and company. She moved back to Ardmore in 2000, and is pleased to be able to share her passion for performance, choreography and teaching through the development of Ardmore Contemporary Dance Company.

“I left Ardmore in 10th grade to pursue my dance studies more professionally,” she said. “It is truly satisfying to now be back in my hometown sharing that experience. The Ardmore community has always had a love for the arts. ACD’s hope is to provide more artistic opportunities within this great community.”
