Young artists from kindergarten through 12th grade in Carter County have the opportunity to enter the Litter Poster Contest being sponsored by the Ardmore Beautification Council in cooperation with the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality.

The deadline entry date is Feb. 1. To receive an application, students and teachers should contact ABC at (580) 223-2230.

“Hundreds of students submit their original, creative ideas for fighting litter in our state,” said Melissa L. Walker, project coordinator for the ABC. “It is a difficult task to only select 12 winners from our county.”

According to Walker, all winning entries in the county contest are forwarded to Oklahoma City, where they are judged with those from across the state.

The state contest is coordinated by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation and the DEQ. A calendar featuring the designs of the 12 statewide winners from this year will be published for distribution in 2011.

First-place winners in each category of the Carter County Litter Poster Contest receive $100; second place, $75; and third place, a $50 savings bond.

Students may enter the contest through their schools or by submitting an entry to the local DEQ office or the ABC by Feb. 1.
