One man was injured and an Amtrak train full of passengers was left stranded after the train collided with a car Thursday morning.

According to Thackerville Police Chief Julie Buckaloo, an unidentified adult white male driving a black Ford Taurus allegedly tried to drive around the signal arms as a southbound Amtrak train approached the intersection.  The train struck the car, dragging it 60 yards before coming to a rest on the tracks.

Buckaloo said the driver of the car was taken to Mercy Health Love County with minor injuries. No one on the train was injured.

The train engine was rendered inoperable and passengers had to wait several hours for a new engine to arrive from Gainesville.
