Fire Marshal Clyde Ellis, Ardmore Fire Department, said arson has been determined as the cause of the  Feb. 15 blaze that destroyed a local florist shop.

Ellis said Wednesday the arson ruling was the result of evidence obtained during the investigation of the nighttime fire at Yellow Rose Flowers and Gifts, 512 12th Ave. NW. Smoke was reported coming from the building by an eye witness about 10:30 p.m. Feb. 15.  Firefighters responded a short time later and brought flames under control. Ellis estimated the damage at $60,000, saying most of the damage was due to smoke. No injuries were reported.

At the time of the fire, the AFD listed the cause as under investigation and Ellis appealed to the public for information regarding the blaze.

“We did get a lot of information from the public, but now that this has become an arson we need more information,” Ellis said Tuesday. “I am asking anyone who has any knowledge about this fire to call me (580) 221-2547. If I’m not able to answer the phone please leave me a message and your name and phone number.”
