One man was injured and an Amtrak train full of passengers was left stranded after the train collided with a car Thursday morning.

According to Thackerville Police Chief Julie Buckaloo, Kevin Ferguson, 42, tried to drive his car around the train crossing as an Amtrak train came through. The train struck the car, dragging it 60 yards before coming to a rest on the tracks.

Buckaloo said Ferguson was taken to Mercy Health Love County with minor injuries, and was “alert, stable and talking” as of 1 p.m. Thursday.

No one on the train was injured.

The train engine was rendered inoperable and passengers had to wait several hours for a new engine to arrive from Gainesville, Texas.
