Alfred Kent Scifres, 51, of Ardmore, died Sunday.

Al was born Dec. 18, 1958, in Los Angeles to Kenneth and Wanda Scifres. He graduated from Goddard High School in Roswell, N.M., in 1977.

 

He married Margaret Irene Mobley Scifres on Oct. 7, 1978.

 

Al served in the Navy for 16 years as a Gunner’s Mate. He lived in Oklahoma for the past 17 years and served as a United Methodist minister for the past five years. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Haywood and Arpelar Volunteer Fire Department. Al also volunteered at the Good Shepherd Community Clinic.
Al loved to hunt, fish, collect guns and spend time with his family and friends.

 

He is survived by his wife, Margaret of Ardmore; two daughters and a son, PJ Scifres of Ardmore, Carrie Scifres-Harvey and Billy Harvey; grandson, Tripp Allen Harvey; mother, Emma Grogan Mobley of Hobbs, N.M.; a sister, Donalita Scifres Keck and her husband, Theodore Keck of Commerce City, Colo.; grandmother, Elizabeth McInturf Grogan of Eunice, N.M.; and several cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Alicia Kathleen Scifres; mother, Wanda King Scifres; father, Kenneth Claude Scifres; grandmother, Carrie Atchley Scifres; grandfather, Alfred I. Scifres; and grandfather, Clifford Grogan.

 

Al’s memorial will be Saturday, June 26, 2010, at 2 p.m., at First United Methodist Church in Ardmore.
