Staff and members of the Ardmore Tourism Authority, along with assistance from Lake Murray State Park personnel, are preparing for this year’s Fourth of July fireworks display at the park.

The show is the largest publicly sponsored fireworks display in the state.

The event draws thousands of area residents and visitors each year. Onlookers surround the lake, stand at the water’s edge or become part of the massive flotilla of boats on the lake to watch the colorful light show.
Participants can enjoy food, music from Strongwood, merchandise vendors and an up-close view of the professional fireworks display near the R.C. Flying Fields.

While the fireworks are free to spectators, Boy Scouts accept donations at the entrance. The display costs approximately $11,000 per year and is supported by donations from both individual and business sponsors. Organizers said it takes financial support, group involvement and volunteers to produce the display.

“The fireworks at Lake Murray are one of the highlights of the July 4th holiday in southern Oklahoma,” ATA Marketing Director Janet Bateman said. “Please consider a donation to make this beautiful, patriotic event possible,”

The Ardmore Tourism Authority is currently accepting sponsorships for this year’s event. A company or individual may be a Gold Sponsor for $500, a Silver Sponsor for $250, a Bronze Sponsor for $100 or may make any size contribution. Donations may be mailed to: Ardmore Tourism Authority, Fireworks Display, P.O. Box 1585, Ardmore OK  73402.
