Services for Hazel Pool Simmons, 96, of Reno, Nev., will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 2, 2010, in the Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Glen Pool officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta, under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Marietta.

Hazel was born December 11, 1913, at Oswalt, Okla., the daughter of Jay C. and Maude Knight Pool. She passed away Friday, June 25, 2010, at her residence in Reno with her family by her side.

Hazel was born December 11, 1913, at Oswalt, Okla., the daughter of Jay C. and Maude Knight Pool. She passed away Friday, June 25, 2010, at her residence in Reno with her family by her side.

 

Hazel moved to Reno in 2004 to be with her daughter, Marjorie Jones. She had previously lived in Sacramento, Calif., and Ardmore, Okla. Hazel was married to W.E. (Bill) Simmons October 17, 1948, in Ardmore, and he preceded her in death on December 21, 1990. She attended Bowles Grade School and graduated from Meadowbrook High School in 1932. She then attended the Ardmore Business College and worked as a secretary.

 

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; and two sisters.
Survivors include her daughter, Marjorie M. Jones and son-in-law, James Jones of Reno; a brother, Ben Pool of Del City, Okla.; three grandchildren, Linda Neil of Lake Tahoe, Nev., Steve Blalock of Santa Clarita, Calif., and Tracy Byer of Torrance, Calif.; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephew.

 

Hazel will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren as Meemo Oklahoma. She was the light of her daughter’s life and her family is so grateful for the many years of love, kindness and generosity that Meemo shared with all.

 

Viewing will be from noon until 5 p.m. Thursday.
