Two teenagers are facing charges after carrying out not one, but two, heists at the same convenience store on the same night.

Lone Grove Police Chief Robert Oldham said Trenton Brown, 19, and an unnamed 17-year-old were taken into custody early Saturday after an eyewitness and store security video linked them to breakins at S&J Mart, located on Meridian Road.

Oldham said police were called to the store’s location about midnight after an eyewitness saw one of the pair exiting the store.

“An eyewitness saw him through the window. When he came out, the witness attempted to confront him, but he ran off. The witness called the police department and reported it,” Oldham said.

An officer responded to the scene, interviewed the witness and watched the videotape of the burglary.

“We planned to start the investigation this (Saturday) morning, but sometime between the midnight burglary and early today the store was hit a second time,” Oldham said.

Video footage of the second heist showed the same suspect had entered the store a second time and carried off loot.

“One of the officers involved in the investigation was able to positively identify the person on the video.

We went to a local residence, located both suspects and recovered the stolen property,” Oldham said.

“Both suspects were taken into custody.”

Oldham said evidence in the case indicates the 17-year-old played the starring role in the two-time burglary video.

“Brown was waiting outside, both times,” the chief said.

Estimates of the thefts were not immediately available.

Reports are expected to be presented to the district attorney’s office Monday for consideration of formal charges.

At age 19, Brown will face charges as an adult. It is not known if the 17-year-old could face adult charges or whether his case will detour to the juvenile system.
