Services for Jackie Lee Hayes of Marietta, Okla., are set for 10 a.m. Thursday, October 28, 2010, in Marietta’s First Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Higle and Rev. Lawrence Anderson officiating. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta, under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Mr. Hayes was born December 27, 1942, in Marietta, the son of Jeff Henry “Butch” and Berniece R. Cartwright Hays. He passed away Sunday, October 24, 2010, in Mercy Health Love County, Marietta, at the age of 67.

 

Born and raised in Love County, Jack attended school at Marietta and Turner. He moved to Arlington, Texas, to work for General Motors. Jack then owned and operated a sand and gravel business for many years. He returned to Marietta in 1987 to make his home.

 

On June 9, 1989, Jack married the love of his life, the former Pam Cothran. They owned and operated Hayes Truckin’ until his illness forced him to sell in 2008. Mr. Hayes never met a stranger and was always willing to help anyone in need, especially the local schools. He enjoyed taking care of his cattle, driving his 18-wheeler, visiting with family and friends, and watching Nascar races and football, especially OU. His greatest loves were his two “boys,” Shorty and Ace, his little canine buddies that he loved dearly. Mr. Hayes was a member of the Eastside Baptist Church.

 

Preceding him in death were his parents; adopted son, David Hayes; sister, Jo Nell Carey; brother-in-law, A.I. Graves; and a very special aunt, Berneda “Bonnie” Smith.

 

Survivors include his wife, Pam of the home; his canine buddies, Ace and Shorty; sister, Melva Dean Graves of Fayetteville, Ark.; brother and sister-in-law, J.H. and Myrna “Cookie” Hayes of Marietta; daughter, Diane Hayes of Fort Worth, Texas; very special mother-in-law, Wanda Smith of Marietta; special sister-in-law/daughter, Echo Smith, also of Marietta; niece, Jill Dillon of Fayetteville; and nephew, Tommy Hayes and his wife, Sherri of Azle, Texas.
Casket bearers will be Ted Olson, John Kennedy, Dr. Robert Patzkowsky, Ronnie Westfall, Jack Drennan, Wayne Brown, Bill Jones and Ted Polchuck. Honorary bearers are all of his truckin’ buddies.

 

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home.
