Services for Sylvan Freeman, 93, of Marietta, Okla., will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 28, 2010, in the Marietta Church of Christ with Bro. Gary Labeth officiating. Interment will follow in McAlister Cemetery under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Marietta.

Born September 17, 1917, at Shady Dale, Love County, the son of John and Ola Flanagan Freeman, Mr. Freeman passed away Sunday, October 24, 2010, in Mercy Health Love County, Marietta.

 

A lifelong resident of Shady Dale, Mr. Freeman attended the Shady Dale community school. He and Clotilde E. Adair were married in Marietta on November 4, 1939, and she preceded him in death on May 29, 2005. Mr. Freeman worked as a heavy equipment operator for the State of Oklahoma Highway Department. His other interests included farming/ranching, gardening, fishing and playing golf. He was a member of the Marietta Church of Christ.

 

In addition to his wife, Mr. Freeman was preceded in death by his parents; eight brothers; and a sister.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Alvin and Linda Freeman and Bill and Rae Freeman of Marietta; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sylvia and Bobby McDaniel of Gainesville, Texas, and Jayne and J.D. Walker of Mocksville, N.C.; two sisters, Gladys Spence of Skellytown, Texas, and Sybil Norris of Marietta; 12 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

 

Serving as bearers will be Duane Hicks, Vance Parr, Gregg McGehee, F.A. Shellenberger, Preston McGehee and Jesse Kirk. Honorary bearers are Jimmy McDaniel, Steven McDaniel, Bill Freeman Jr., David McGehee, Bobby Stinson and Travis Scott.

 

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening at Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home.
