Funeral services for Joyce LaWayne “J.L.” Steudeman, 63, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 3, 2010, at the New Covenant Church with Reverend Bill Freeman and Reverend Bobby Freeman officiating. Interment will follow at Provence Cemetery.

 


Funeral services for Joyce LaWayne “J.L.” Steudeman, 63, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 3, 2010, at the New Covenant Church with Reverend Bill Freeman and Reverend Bobby Freeman officiating. Interment will follow at Provence Cemetery.

 

The son of William G. Steudeman and Mary (Howard) Steudeman was born on December 6, 1946, in Ardmore, Oklahoma. J.L. passed away on October 29, 2010, at his Ardmore residence. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Joy Wheeler; brothers, Manuel and Jay Bird Steudeman; sisters, Virgina Cox and Laveta Price.

 

He and the former Flora Householder were married on November 8, 1991, in Gainesville, Texas.

 

Mr. Steudeman had been a resident of Ardmore all of his life. He served his country in the United States Marines and received an honorable discharge.

 

J.L. was owner and operator of the J.L.’s Garage, where he was an auto mechanic. He enjoyed working with wood, hunting, fishing and was a member of the NRA, but his most cherished memories came when he played with his grandbabies. J.L. was a member of the New Covenant Church where he served as the Associate Pastor.

 

He is survived by his wife, Flora of the home; sons, Garland Steudeman of Ardmore, Okla., Vernon Steudeman of Ardmore, Okla., Michael Steudeman of Mustang, Okla., and Mark Steudeman of Ardmore, Okla.; daughters, Kristi Adams, Melanie George, Angela Hinkle, Loretta Steudeman of Ardmore, Okla., Sheila Smith of Edmond, Okla., and Mandy Young of Ardmore; numerous grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Calvin, Ed, Tom and Donald Steudeman; sister, Jane Denny.

 

Pallbearers will be: Freddie Bearden, Mitch Repp, Randy Hinkle, Jack Hensley, Jeff George and Austin George. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening at the Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m.
