James Eugene Christie Sr., 59, of McMillan, Oklahoma, passed away on Saturday, November 13, 2010, at the Medical Center in Durant, Oklahoma. He was born on June 12, 1951, to the late Gilbert Isom Christie and Dena Mae Taylor Christie in Talihina, Oklahoma.

 


James Eugene Christie Sr., 59, of McMillan, Oklahoma, passed away on Saturday, November 13, 2010, at the Medical Center in Durant, Oklahoma. He was born on June 12, 1951, to the late Gilbert Isom Christie and Dena Mae Taylor Christie in Talihina, Oklahoma.

 

James was raised in Marshall County and later moved to Chicago where he lived from 1966 to 1972. He married Gloria Burgett on June 28, 1969, in Oakland. James moved to Oakland and worked for the Marshall County Dist. 1 for 27 years and retired June 2010. He was a licensed minister and attended the Pickens Baptist Church. James enjoyed being with his grandkids, cooking out on the Bar-B-Q and playing his bass guitar.

 

He is survived by his wife, Gloria Jean Christie, McMillan, Oklahoma; children, James Eugene Christie and wife, April, Madill, Oklahoma, John Lee Christie, Ardmore, Oklahoma, Joseph Brannon Christie and wife, Bobbie, El Paso, Texas, Jessica Lynn Christie, Madill, Oklahoma, Jason Todd Christie and wife, Karen, Madill, Oklahoma, and Jamie Taylor Christie, Madill, Oklahoma; and sister, Gilberta Gail Roberts, Madill, Oklahoma.

 

James was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Teresa Christie; and one sister, Betty Fixico.

 

Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 17, 2010, at 2 p.m. at the Pickens Baptist Church, McMillan, Oklahoma. Robert Sanders will officiate the services. Music arranged by Brad Joe. Interment will be at the Pickens Cemetery, McMillan, Oklahoma. Services will be under the direction of Watts Funeral Home, Madill, Oklahoma.

 

Casket Bearers: Michael Christie, Joseph Christie, Joseph Christie Jr., Tony Christie, Curtis Johnson, Don Johnson and Mark Roberts.
Honorary bearers: Marshall Co. Dist. 1, Jason Christie, James Christie, John Christie, Matt Roberts and Michael Bugos.

 

Visitation will be today from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Watts Funeral Home, Madill, Oklahoma, and a Wake at the Pickens Baptist Church starting at 7 p.m.
