Opal Louise Gardner, age 63, passed away on Saturday, November 20, 2010, in Ardmore, Okla. Services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, November 24, 2010, in the Chapel at Griffin-Hillcrest, Ardmore, Okla. Reverend Phillip Helms will officiate. Interment to follow at Milo Cemetery, Milo, Okla.

Opal was born on June 3, 1947, in Benton, Arkansas, to Kenneth Leroy Goshen and Cassie Lee (Smith Goshen) Britt.

 

She married Elzie Gardner on November 13, 1970. She worked for 17 years for Ardmore Public Schools in the high school cafeteria where she became everyone’s “Grandma.”

 

She is preceded in death by her daughter, Sheila Bearden; her father, Kenneth Goshen; mother, Cassie Britt; special step-father, Clifton Britt; and brother, Roy Studer.

 

She is survived by her husband, Elzie Gardner, of the home; children, son, Freddie Bearden and Ruby Tunnell; daughter LeAnn Rivera and husband, Juan; son, Lester “Roe” Gardner and Karen Easterwood, all of Ardmore, Okla.; brother, Kenneth Goshen and wife, Sheila, of Caddo, Okla.; grandchildren, Heather Tunnell, Carmen Castellanos, Juana Rivera, Ethan Clough, Jonathon Gardner, and Kesti Gardner; great-grandchildren, Elzie Tunnell and Brittnee Tunnell; nieces and nephews, Wesley Goshen, Ray Smith, Jennifer Cook, Stephen Gardner, Jeremy Stanley, Misty Goshen Hester, Kenneth B. Goshen, and Suzie Akers; special family friends, MaryAnn Cox and Doris Elmore.

 

Pallbearers will be Bobby Smith, Brian Smith, Wesley Goshen, David Hill, Justin Garcia, and Trey Minyard.

 

Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
