Funeral services for Ethel Miller Burleson are entrusted to the care of Kirk Funeral Home. A celebration of her life will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 28, 2010, at Warren Memorial United Methodist Church. Pastor Everista Chikango will officiate. Interment will follow in Clearview Cemetery.

Her soul ascended Monday, Nov. 22, 2010, from Mercy Memorial Hospital at 8:23 p.m. She was 84 years, 7 months and 23 days old. A lifetime resident of Ardmore, she attended Dunbar Elementary and Douglass High School. Fifty years ago, she united with Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. During the decline of the church’s membership, she attended Corinth Baptist. In 1946, she married C.L. Burleson. He died Jan. 29, 1996. Four sons and five daughters were born to this union. Thus, she became a housewife and a homemaker.

She loved her children very much and nurtured each of their personalities and characteristics. Due to this passion and love, each child felt her love and knew that she loved them equally. Should one get into trouble, Ethel was the mother hen who covered them underneath her wings of love. She parented them through — whatever the situation.

Despite her love for her children, she was a firm disciplinarian, and corrected them when they were wrong. Her encouragement was the inspiration, which helped them through life. Her help for them was contagious; this encouraged each of them to remain closely knit and to help one another. They were taught responsibility and moral behavior. This teaching instilled into her children the knowledge to raise their children likewise.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Henry Miller, Herschel and Margie Webb; her husband, C.L. Burleson; one son, Robert Spenser; two brothers, John Webb and Willie Webb; an d a sister, Betty Catherine.

Those left to forever cherish her memories are three sons, Charles Burleson Jr., James Burleson and Willie Burleson, all of Ardmore; five daughters, Erma Jean Britford, Columbus, Ohio, Carleen Lyons, Ardmore, Patricia Pickens, Waco, Texas, Julia Burleson, Norman, and Kathleen Fields, Oklahoma City; two sisters, Eloise Webb and Lorene Means, both Ardmore; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.

Visitation is today from noon until 6 p.m.
