Funeral services for Hazel Howard LeVally, 90, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2011, in the Centennial Chapel of Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home and Crematory conducted by Reverend Dan Patman.  Burial will be in the Ringling Cemetery, Ringling, Oklahoma.

Born May 4, 1920, on the family ranch in the Ringling-Claypool area of Jefferson County; she was the fourth of six children of the late Wilton Elvester and Jessie Joe (Brown) Howard. Hazel graduated from Ringling High School as Valedictorian of the Class of 1937. She became a member of the National Scholastic Fraternity of Alpha Phi Sigma. She graduated from Oklahoma University in 1942 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and taught math for several years at Wilson High School. She later returned to the University of Oklahoma and in 1948 received her Law Degree and was admitted to the Oklahoma Bar Association.  

 

A member of the First United Methodist Church, Hazel had practiced law in Healdton many years until retiring in 1974. The Boy Scouts of America awarded her an honorary membership for her devotion and work with them.  She moved to Ardmore in 2001, and died here, Saturday, February 26, 2011.

 

Survivors include her brother, Donald Howard, Claypool; her sister, Doris Worley, Ringling; a special friend and care giver, Tommy Trantham; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Two brothers, Melvin and Paul Howard; and a sister, Ruth Howard Lester preceded her in death.

 

Serving as bearers will be Judge Tom Walker, Derril McGuire, Mike Hisey, Martin Dyer, Larry Bruner and Dana Gossvener.
