Camp Fire USA was originally known as Camp Fire Girls. Dr. Luther Gullick and his wife Charlotte founded the organization in 1910. The name was chosen from hundreds submitted and groups began meeting in Vermont. The term “fire” symbolizes the home, the place of comfort and cheer. Keeping the fire burning, whether in camp or in the home was a necessary task. The word “camp” symbolizes the outdoor spirit of the organization.
