Services for Steve Brown will be held 10 a.m. Monday, August 22, 2011, at the First Baptist Church in Sulphur with Rev. Bill Leveridge officiating. Interment will follow in Springer Cemetery.

 

Steve was born August 9, 1945, in Ardmore, Oklahoma, to Willie Lee and Polly (Culpepper) Brown. He passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2011, at his home at the age of 66 years and 8 days.

 

Steve graduated valedictorian of Springer High School and earned a degree in mechanical engineering and drafting at Southeastern University in Durant. He and Sheila Ann (Green) Whitfield were married December 21, 1990, in Sulphur after being introduced by his daughter, April, a few years earlier. He had a love for sports cars especially Porsches and enjoyed attending car shows around the state. He also entered car shows and was very particular with the cleanliness of his own vehicles.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Jack Brown.

 

He is survived by his wife, Sheila; children, Eric Brown and wife, Nicole of Erie, Colorado, April Nittler and Jason Nittler of Arkansas City, Kansas, Todd Whitfield and wife, Crystal of Sulphur, David Whitfield and wife, Heather of Davis, Russell Pena of the home, and Lori Roy and husband, Tim of Sulphur; sisters, Judy Kyle of Lone Grove, Betty Dunson and husband, Kenneth of Cleburne, Texas and Alma Gordon and husband, Clement of Marlin, Texas; and grandchildren, Sidney, Brice, Katy, Reagan, Garret, Sophie and Tabytha.

 

Serving as pallbearers are Billy Barksdale, David Smith, Mickey Gilbert, Henry Asbury, Wayne Moore and Pete Duffy. Honorary bearers are Mike Jones, Keith Smith and Larry Smith.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cross Timbers Hospice, 207 C Street, Ardmore, OK 73401.

 

Services entrusted to Hale’s Krien Funeral Home of Sulphur, Oklahoma.
