Arnell Akin, formerly of Ardmore, Okla., was born on April 17, 1930, and passed away on August 18, 2011, at Ruston, La., at the age of 81 years.


Arnell Akin, formerly of Ardmore, Okla., was born on April 17, 1930, and passed away on August 18, 2011, at Ruston, La., at the age of 81 years.

 

Arnell had been a resident of Ardmore for the past 30 years and in June of this year relocated to Ruston, La., to be with his son and family. Arnell had retired from the Teamsters Union then went to work at Total Refinery as a contractor. The last nine years he had been employed for Valero Refinery as a security guard until his health wouldn’t allow him to work.

 

Arnell was well-known for his cooking, especially his famous ”red beans.” He always looked forward to his birthday when all of his “Girls” (approximately 20 of them) took his out to eat. Arnell loved his friends and family. He will be forever loved and forever missed.

 

He is survived by his son, Arnell Dean Akin,Jr. and wife, Paula and  family of Dubach, La.; his daughter, Kitty Walpole and husband, Stacey and family of Monroe, La.; his family by choice, Jake, Mildred and Ronnie Whatley, Dana Benson, Tammy Spraggins, Steve, Leslie, Tweety and Stacey Price, Mac Paul, Kathy and Stan Sneed and Ashton, Gary and Brenda Pickens and family, Eddie Scott, Jimmy Donham, Lisa Taylor and kids, Carolyn and Brian Dees, Jovita and Larry Bohanon, Brad and Frankie Whatley and kids, Carrie and Richard Hudson and Chelsie, Michelle Spells and kids; his two buddies, Jonathan Whatley and Dawson Pickens; his many friends at Valero; his girls at Walmart and many many more friends.

 

There will be a celebration of Arnell’s life for everyone to share our memories of him on September 17, 2011, at 6 p.m. at the home of Steve and Leslie Price of Lone Grove.
