Funeral services for Charles Thompson of Fitzhugh, OK will be 2 p.m. Monday, August 29, 2011, at Smith-Phillips Funeral Home in Ada, Okla.  Interment will follow at Swan Hill Cemetery in Ada, Okla.  Officiating will be Rev. Steve Wilburn. Chickasaw Honor Guard to perform military rites.

Mr. Thompson died Thursday, August 25, 2011, at Duncan Regional Hospital in Duncan, Okla., at the age of 80.  He was born June 22, 1931, in Dimmitt, Texas to Joe Thompson and Velma Phillips Thompson.  

 

Mr. Thompson graduated from Dimmitt High School in Dimmitt, Texas, in 1950.  He was a longtime resident of Fitzhugh, Okla., and worked as a rancher for many years, and had served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He loved his family, fishing, traveling, being outdoors, and helping others.

 

Mr. Thompson is survived by one son, Charles Lon Thompson and his wife, Pam of Fitzhugh, Okla.; one daughter, Doris Thompson Hull of Oklahoma City, Okla.; three sisters, Norma Jean and DM Thompson of Freona, Texas, Joann Gordoni of Norman, Okla.; and Myrna Rheudsil and Jay Roberts of Dallas, Texas; four grandchildren, Kristi Meyer of San Antonio, Texas, Terri Hull of Oklahoma City, Okla., Morgan Thompson of Stillwater, Okla.; and Hunter Thompson of Fitzhugh, Okla.; three great-grandchildren, Katherine Meyer, Arianne Meyer, and Gabriel Meyer; and his companion, Pauline Pester and her family.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Velma Thompson.

 

Pallbearers: Hunter Thompson, Shad Smith, Leon Rushing, Don Gordoni, Joey Morrow, and Walt Clift.

 

Honorary pallbearers: James Pope, Charles Morrow, James Morrow, Gary Fielding, Ronnie “Hollywood” Baugh, and Sylvester Gipson.
