Bobbie Lee Hurt was born December 15, 1930, in Pratt, Kansas, to the late Walter Lee and Jessie Mae Hurt. Bob passed away Sunday, December 18, 2011, in Ardmore, Oklahoma, at the age of 81 years and 3 days.


Bobbie Lee Hurt was born December 15, 1930, in Pratt, Kansas, to the late Walter Lee and Jessie Mae Hurt. Bob passed away Sunday, December 18, 2011, in Ardmore, Oklahoma, at the age of 81 years and 3 days.

 

Bob attended Pratt High School, Pratt, Kansas, and during his senior year joined the United States Marine Corps. He served in Korea during the Korean War as a Corsair mechanic with the VMF-323 ‘Death Rattlers’ Marine Fighter Squadron. He returned to the U.S. as a Staff Sgt. stationed at Camp Pendleton, California. On October 12, 1953, he was honorably discharged.

 

Bob married Laurine Faye Young March 1, 1954; they were blessed with two wonderful children, Randa LeAnn and Jamie Kirk.

 

Following his military service and marriage, Bob worked for various oil companies for eight years; he eventually was employed at the refinery in Ardmore and retired after 29 years from the Valero Refinery there.

 

A patriot at heart, Bob had been active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 4574, Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 30 and had been a Mason. He enjoyed watching sports and spending time with his family. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and kindness to others.

 

Survivors include his wife, Laurine Hurt of the home; daughter, LeAnn Richmond and her husband, Bob; his son, Jamie Hurt and his wife, Shelly; grandsons, Dalton and Jackson Hurt, all of Ardmore; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

His parents, two brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

 

Funeral services will be in the Centennial Chapel of Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 22, 2011, conducted by the Rev. Roy Fountain.

 

Burial with Military Honors will be in the Provence Cemetery.

 

Serving as bearers will be Jeremy and Darin Ehrenrich, Bobby, David and Garry Goodlow and Terry Jones. Honorary bearers include Tim West, Gerald Fort and Larry Young.
