After three years as superintendent, Matt Holder will be taking a job in Weatherford.

Weatherford Public Schools are in Class 4A and has about 2,000 students.

“I’m jumping out on a limb. This was too good a career opportunity to pass up,” Holder said. “They have a good reputation throughout the state, and I hope to continue that excellence.”

His accomplishments during his time in Springer Public Schools include passing a bond issue to build a new cafeteria and two additional classrooms. Construction is scheduled to be completed by the time he leaves.

Other improvements have included a new agricultural education building and increasing the district’s Academic Performance Index.

“I’ve had nothing but support from the community. Springer will always have a special place in my heart,” Holder said.

As he leaves, Holder said he will take many lessons with him.

“At Springer, I’ve gotten first hand knowledge of every aspect of the school district,” he said. “That knowledge will be helpful in a bigger district.”

Taking the helm this summer will be Cindy Hunter, who currently is the principal of Will Rogers Elementary.

“I’m very sad to be leaving Ardmore, and equally excited to come here,” Hunter said.

She earned her superintendent certificate a year ago, and this will be her first superintendent position.

“I enjoy being in a leadership role, and this is another opportunity for me to challenge myself and work for the benefit of children,” Hunter said.

Hunter said she does not have any particular plans at this point for the district.

“I will spend the first year finding out about the students and staff and what their needs are,” she said. “I won’t make any radical changes, but will see where potential areas of growth are.”
