Memorial services for Annis “Irene” Owen will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 28, 2012, at the Northwest Baptist Church in Ardmore, Oklahoma, conducted by the Reverend Leonard Ezell. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

A time of visitation and support for family and friends is scheduled from 6:30 to 7:30 this evening at Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home and Crematory.

Irene was born May 3, 1921, to the late William and Bessie Holbrook at Crinerville, Oklahoma. She went to be with the Lord on April 25, 2012, at the age of 90 years, 11 months and 22 days. Her husband, the late Grant Owen, preceded her in death June 20, 2011.

 

Irene was a homemaker all of her life and was known as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a faithful and active member of Northwest Baptist Church. She also served as a volunteer at Mercy Hospital for many years. Irene loved cooking, sewing, crocheting, knitting and reading; she spent much of her life as a servant of others, doing things to help individuals and others in the community.

 

Irene is survived by her children, Bill Owen and wife, Gayle of Ardmore, Joe Owen and wife, Christina of Ardmore, and Gayla Rice and husband, Chuck of Plano, Texas; nine grandchildren, Grant Alan Owen and wife, Tracie of Ardmore, Julie Morris and husband, Chad of Norman, Craig Bates and wife, Cynde of Irving, Texas, Brandi Phillips and husband, John of Norman, David Rice and wife, Kim of Woodstock, Georgia, Jennifer Merrick of Edmond, Lauren Roberts and husband, Justin of Dallas, Texas, Jesse Williams and Emma Balt of Frisco, Texas, and Christopher Williams of Norman. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Of her six sisters, the two surviving are Betty Bookout of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Nancy Loften of Houston, Texas.

 

Serving as bearers will be Rodney Shields, Dan Hertzel, Geoff Jones, James Copeland, Justin Cheek and Biff Hunt.
