  • Ardmore’s Carson McPherson may be on the way to Norman this fall to begin his freshman year as a member of the University of Oklahoma baseball team, but it doesn’t mean the phenomenal young pitcher doesn’t still have a couple steps left to take before he gets there.
In a celebration of his excellence, and that of his peers around the state, McPherson earned the start for the West team in Oklahoma’s Large School All-State Game at J.L. Johnson Stadium, on the campus of Oral Roberts University in Tulsa on Tuesday.
McPherson started the game and threw the first three innings, striking out five while allowing three hits and a single unearned run.
“He did well, really well,” said Ardmore baseball coach Will Trisciani, who traveled north to see his former protégé play.
The West went on to win, 6-2, giving McPherson the pitching victory.
“I felt great out there, really loose,” McPherson said. “It feels great to see my accomplishments pay off through high school by pitching in an event like this.”
McPherson, who has stayed busy all summer playing American Legion baseball for the Southern Financial Group Ardmore Cardinals, felt that his extra work with the team had kept him in sharp form for the All-State Game.
“Playing Legion ball really helps because you play all the time, and pitch all the time,” McPherson said. “I was really prepared.”
The Ardmore Cardinals’ American Legion series with the Midwest City Outlaws was canceled Tuesday due to the All-State games. Cardinals catcher Cash Miller of Coleman was an All-State selection for the Small East team.
