  • Two young, rebuilding programs locked up on Friday, and Madill made the most of the opportunity.
The Wildcats improved to 3-0 for the season, using timely hits and advantageous baserunning to run-rule Ardmore 19-4 in five innings at Valero Park. Madill’s offense put together 15 hits to offset an error-filled game for both clubs.
“We’re young and they’re just learning some of the little stuff,” Madill coach Taralee McReynolds said. “That’s something we’re really trying to focus on — don’t compound a mistake, don’t make the same mistake twice, and to take advantage of every opportunity.”
The Wildcats did just that, taking the extra base when the opportunity presented itself, coupled with hits at key times. Madill had 10 stolen bases as a team and every player in the lineup scored at least once.
“I think commitment really is the thing I saw great improvement in,” McReynolds said. “We had a huge chunk of them willing to go play summer ball, to give up most of their summer, and I think that’s really shown. So I’m really proud of that, along with the freshmen stepping up.”
Ardmore (1-2) fell behind 4-0 after the first inning and couldn’t keep Madill off the board from then on, giving up two or more runs in each frame. The big blow came on Maria Torres’ three-run triple in the third inning, which extended the Wildcats’ lead to 10-3.
Leadoff hitter Hailey Furr set the table for the Wildcats with two hits, three runs batted in and three runs scored. Cheyenne Reed added three hits and three RBIs, Emily Coleman had two RBIs, and Ashtin Yow and Bailey Sparks each scored three times. In the circle, Ali Selvy tossed five innings of seven-hit ball for her third win.
For Ardmore, Caden Ingram had a double and an RBI, and Autumn Bruner scored twice. Dariann Volenstine pitched all five innings for the Tigers.
Madill will play against Lone Grove on Monday at 5 p.m. at Madill High School. Ardmore will host Lawton MacArthur on Monday at 5 p.m.
