  • Wilson piled up 14 hits and got quality pitching from freshman Selina Whitener to roll past Ardmore 11-0 on Monday at Valero Park.
The Eagles (2-3) scored two runs or more in each of the final four innings to wrap up the game in five via run-rule. Whitener led the way from the circle, tossing a no-hitter with one walk, one hit batter and four strikeouts.
“Selina had hurt her back for three games, so she hadn’t been pitching much, so this is the first day she’s got to pitch a full game,” Wilson coach Scott Hartman said. “It helps when you have a pitcher that throws strikes and we’ve been playing good defense, so I’m proud of the way we played today.”
What also helps is quality at-bats. The Eagles expanded an early 3-0 lead to 6-0 after back-to-back RBI singles from Whitener and Mikayla Greenroyd, with an additional run scoring on a throw to second base and steal of home.
Kendal Osteen added an RBI single in the next inning, and Kelsey Idleman followed with a double to plate another run and push the Wilson lead to 8-0. Kassidy Morse and Danielle Vernon added RBI hits in the top of the fifth.
Idleman was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs. Moore doubled and drove in a run for the Eagles, and Osteen had three hits and three runs scored.
Vernon and Greenroyd were each 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Dariann Volenstine pitched all five innings for Ardmore (1-7), striking out four.
“Dariann threw well today. She threw strikes, and when she throws strikes, she’s pretty effective,” Ardmore coach Charli Crawford said.  “We just haven’t been making routine plays behind her.
“At the Tish tournament we started to look like we were coming together“I feel like going to school and being in classes, being in a routine will help. I’m hoping to see some improvement from that.”
