  • James Morgan Rowten, 87, of Ardmore, Okla., passed away Wednesday, August 29th, 2012, at the Oklahoma Veterans' Home, where he had been a resident since 2007.

  • James Morgan Rowten, 87, of Ardmore, Okla., passed away Wednesday, August 29th, 2012, at the Oklahoma Veterans' Home, where he had been a resident since 2007.
    The son of the late Dana and Helen Rowten, he was born April 25th, 1925, in Denver, Colo. Jim worked and raised his family in the states of Colorado, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Iowa, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico and California, before re­turning to Oklahoma in 1977. He loved his small ranch in Lone Grove and worked for the Oklahoma Big 5 Job Services pro­gram and the Shoppers Paradise in Ardmore. Jim was a graduate of Saint Joseph Military Academy in Hayes Kan., and served in the US Coast Guard, 1943-1946.
    He married Laura Trus­key, April 26, 1947, and after 59 years of marriage, Laura preceded him in death, Jan. 13, 2006. A daughter, Cynthia Ann Rowten, also preceded him in death, November 4, 1999.
    Jim is survived by eight of his nine children, two daughters and sons-in­law, Sandra and Steven Wade of Winfield, Ill., and Mary and Dr. Larry Gee, of Colorado Springs, Colo; six sons and three daughters-in-law, Mi­chael and Cathy Rowten, of Edmond, Okla., Robert and Charlie Ann Rowten of Lubbock, Texas, Rich­ard and Somporn Row­ten, of Albuquerque, NM, James Rowten and Lise Markham of San Diego, Calif., Kenneth Rowten, of Lone Grove, Okla., and Ronald Rowten, of Lone Grove, Okla; 19 dearly loved grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Lou and Jim Millikan of In­dianapolis, Ind.
    Visitation and Rosary Services will be held at Harvey Douglas Funeral Home in Ardmore, Mon­day, September 3 from 6 to 7 p.m. with Rosary begining at 7 p.m. Fu­neral Mass will be held on Tuesday, September 4, at 11 a.m., at Saint Mary Catholic Church with Father Thomas Dowdell officiating with Jim's six sons serving as his pall­bearers.
