Grace Jean Cotton, age 81, of Ardmore, Okla. passed away on Friday, Sept. 14, 2012. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012 in The Chapel at Griffin-Hillcrest with Pastor Lindsey Paty as Officiant. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, Ardmore, Okla.
Grace was born to Willie Cotton and Cecelia Thompson on July 13, 1931 at Ardmore, Okla. She worked at Walker's Nursing Home for five years before taking a position for eleven years as a nurse at the Ardmore Convalescent Home. Grace was an active member in the Center Point Baptist Church and she was devoted to her church family. She was also active in the many Chickasaw senior citizen activities. As a singer, she loved gospel music and received her training with the Stamps Quartet out of Dallas, Texas. She enjoyed arts and crafts, quilting and sewing clothing for her family. In her youth, she enjoyed putting her heart into poetry and she also enjoyed sketching. Grace was an avid OU fan. She invested her time by encouraging her daughter to perform in formal dance. She spent countless hours taking her to class, performances, recitals, and talent shows. Grace was a caring grandmother to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as a devoted mother.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Cotton and Cecelia Wallace. Half-brother; Sonny Wallace and one sisters; Sandra.
She is survived by her daughter; Sharon Postoak of Ardmore, Okla. Two granddaughters; Deidra Marris and Kimberly F. Jim both of Ardmore, Okla. Four great-grandchildren; Stratton, Bryant, Aspen, and Briar. One sister; Kathy Martin of Ardmore. Aunt; Elizabeth Rich of Ardmore, Niece; Jennifer Wyatt of Guthrie Okla. and two nephews; Mike Wallace and Jason Wallace of Ardmore. Five great nieces and one great nephew.
Serving as pallbearers will be Bryant Studeman, Stratton Studeman, Ron Parker, Marcus Wilmond, Jason Wallace and Ben Parnacher.
Mike Wallace will serve as honorary pallbearer.
The family will greet visitors from6-8 p.m., Tuesday evening, Sept. 18, 2012 at Griffin-Hillcrest, Ardmore, Okla.
