  • Virginia Doss Allen, age 76, passed from this life on Thursday, September 20, 2012, surrounded by her family at her Ardmore home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Craddock Memorial Chapel with Van Newton officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Healdton, Oklahoma.
Virginia was born to Jesse B. and Hettie Hicks Doss in Healdton, Oklahoma, on August 12, 1936. She had great memories of her school days and many friends while attending and graduating Healdton Schools. On November 24, 1951, she married her high school sweetheart, Ernest "Cotton" Allen. They had four children between 1955 and 1960: Valerie, Jesse, Johnny and Vickie.
Virginia worked in abstracting in Purcell, Pauls Valley and Lawton. When the Oklahoma Highway Patrol brought Cotton to Ardmore in 1974, she felt like she had come home. She had the privilege of working with the offices of Ward S. Merrick Jr., Trey Merrick and her Merrico family and Bill Goddard.
Cotton and Virginia spent the majority of their retirement at Cardinal Cove on Lake Texoma where they enjoyed fishing, gardening and the friendship of many neighbors. They were members of the Enos Church of Christ.
Virginia was a cancer survivor at age 34 and 65. At 75, cancer returned and won the third round, but not without a heroic battle. She will be remembered for her strength in adversity and her heart of gold. She was forever selfless and devoted to her family.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Cotton; children, Valerie and Mike Bynum, Jesse and Kim Allen, Johnny and Debbie Allen and Vickie and Dillon Page; grandchildren, Amy and Joel Wisian, Allen and Emily Bynum, Casey and Brooke Miller, Brooke Snodgrass, Matt and Emily Miller, Jamie and Andrew Chavers, Brandon Allen, Jessica Allen and Julie Allen; four great-grandchildren, Wyatt Wisian, Macy Mae Wisian, Carson Miller, Trey Snodgrass and soon-to-be-born, Addison Chavers. She is also survived by two cherished nieces, Debbie Holmes and Susie Weaver and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Col. J.B. Doss; and a special grandson, Derrek Snodgrass.
Representatives of her beloved extended family serving as pallbearers are: Phil Holmes, Dr. Mike Weaver, Dr. Zane Weaver, Zac Weaver, Steve Barbour, Paul Barbour, Todd Denney, Michael Bingman and Robert Casey.
Memorials may be left to the American Cancer Society.
