YLF 2013 will be June 10-15. The ODDC presents YLF every year in June at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma in Chickasha. Students chosen to participate attend YLF at no cost.

This week-long camp is a unique leadership training program to help prepare students with disabilities for life after high school. The delegates, who include students with learning, physical, cognitive and mental health disabilities, are up-and-coming high school juniors and seniors chosen through a statewide competition that seeks students who have leadership potential.

Students hear from internationally known speakers throughout the week and spend a day at the Oklahoma State Capitol in Oklahoma City. There they meet with legislators and participate in a mock legislative debate. Each student
also develops his or her own Personal Leadership Plan.

Every year, a select number of YLF graduates are invited to return as mentors for their peers, so students have a chance to learn from past graduates.

To be eligible to apply, a student must be an Oklahoma resident returning to high school as a junior or senior for the upcoming school year, and have a disability as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act. Applications are accepted year-round. Applications for YLF 2013 are due March 1. People interested in volunteering as mentors and staff members must also apply.

ODDC ensures that all students can play an active part by providing staff support, nursing care, assistive technology and physical access to all activities.
