  • Vera Alma Akins, age 98, of Ardmore, passed away Monday, October 1, 2012, in Ardmore.
    Services will be 2 p.m. today in The Chapel at Griffin-Hillcrest Funeral Home with the Reverend Ivy Henson and the Reverend Donnie Collins officiating. Entombment following in the Hillcrest Mausoleum, Ardmore.
    Vera was born May 18, 1914, in Lebanon, Missouri, to Edward Musgraves and Anna (Baker) Musgraves.
    At a young age, her family moved to Ardmore, Okla., where she attended Ardmore schools. She met and married Otho L. Scott and became a homemaker. From this 25-year union her daughter, Marilyn Scott was born. After Vera and Otho separated, she later met and married Ira J. Akins and they lived in Wichita Falls, Texas. In 1977, they relocated and lived east of Ardmore. In 1986, Ira passed away and Vera moved into town. In her youth, she enjoyed arts and crafts as well as quilting. She was a great seamstress and also enjoyed cooking and working in her yard.
    Vera was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and one great-grandson, Aaron Pixler.
    She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Scott and great-granddaughter, Candice Monroe, all of Ardmore; grandsons, Joe Pixler of Lubbock, Texas, and Danny Pixler of Ardmore; two great-grandsons, Marcus Pixler of Aledo, Texas, and Josiah Monroe of Ardmore; and three great-great-grandchildren, McKinna Pixler, Macy Pixler and Marleigh Pixler.
    Serving as pallbearers will be Marcus Pixler, Joe Pixler, Josiah Monroe, Danny Pixler, Dakota Ross and Christopher Ross.
