An Ardmore woman was arrested Tuesday when her story about helping the owner of a residence with a late night "clean up" didn't check out.
Ardmore Police Department reports indicate Brenda Davis, 53, was arrested about 11 p.m. after officers responded to a report of a woman loading items from a house in the 100 block of B Street NW into a white Jeep. When officers arrived at the scene, witnesses said the woman had driven away.
Within minutes the white Jeep and the suspect were located in the 400 block of C St. NW. Davis told officers the owner of the property had asked her to "clean up."
However, when the owner was contacted she said she had not asked anyone to "clean up" and had not given anyone permission to be inside the house.
Davis then "came clean" about burglarizing the residence by showing officers the location of the items she had taken from the house. She was booked into the Carter County Detention Center and formally charged with second-degree burglary Wednesday.
Davis made an initial appearance in Carter County District Court where a $15,000 bond was set. She was released from the county jail after posting bond. A preliminary hearing conference is set for Nov. 6.
