Summer was a busy time for Blayke Hunziker.
Elected in the spring, the Wilson High School senior is serving as the Beta Club state secretary.
Hunziker had the opportunity to attend the Broyhill Leadership Conference in South Carolina.
"It was a life-changing experience," he said. "I met people, and we became friends."
The conference helped improve Hunziker's self-confidence and communication skills.
"There were things I would question myself about, but now I would act. I've become less shy and broke out of my shell," he said.
While he won't officially be representing Oklahoma until the 2013 National Convention, Hunziker was able to attend the 2012 National Convention in Greensboro, N.C.
While at Nationals, Hunziker helped the Oklahoma state vice president from Konowa run for a national office.
"We had three people, no background, no props and put it together in a day and a half," he said. "We needed more time to prepare. We had fun preparing, but on stage was humiliating."
The trip also featured his first plane ride.
"It was like riding on a bus, except my ears popped a little," Hunziker said.
As he serves his term, Hunziker will plan the State Convention with the other officers. He will be responsible for presiding over one of the general sessions and giving a keynote address.
"I think it will be fun," Hunziker said.
In addition to Beta Club, Hunziker participates in basketball, student council, baseball and newspaper.
He is the son of Brian and Dyanna Hunziker.
Hunziker plans to attend college and become a petroleum landman.
